Dr Ali Mahmoud

Dr Ali Mahmoud has been the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive of the Libyan Investment Authority (LIA) since 2017. Under his leadership, the LIA has embarked on a comprehensive transformation journey to improve its governance, transparency and accountability, and made considerable progress in bringing the Fund closer in line with the Santiago Principles. Dr Ali Mahmoud has over 17 years’ experience in financial and business administration. Prior to the LIA, he was the CEO of the Libyan company for finance and leasing, a subsidiary of the Economic and Social Development Fund. Dr Ali Mahmoud started his career in academia in 2002 as a member of the teaching staff in the Faculty of Economics at Aljufra University. He has since held positions as a Board Member of the Libyan Academy, where he headed up its doctoral programme, as well as the Dean of Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Sirt. Dr Ali Mahmoud holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from University of Tripoli, Libya (1998), Master of Financial Planning from Planning Institute of Higher Studies, Tripoli, Libya (2002), and PhD in Financial Management from The Arab Academy for Financial Sciences, Amman Jordan (2009).
